THE CASTLE CAKE

Valentine’s Day reminds me of a special occasion cake we made "in the name of love" for one of our dear customers. Her husband was turning 65 and she wanted the cake to express several things about his character and it needed to serve 350 people!

She described her husband to us: 6'3" tall, a prince of a husband and his birthday was the day after Halloween so it needed to include some spooks, goblins and witches.

We decided to create a castle fit for a king with a few tombstones outside of the moat. It also needed to be more than 6'3" from the floor. Six of us delivered it in 4 – 5 pieces to put together on site. It took 18 man hours to assemble – 6 of us working on it for 3 hours. When finished, it towered over the "prince's head" and was topped off with turrets and a jeweled crown.

What an adventure! It challenged our creative minds, engineering skills and our nerves but we were the better for it and oh so grateful for the opportunity!
